About Perlane Skin Injections
Perlane is FDA approved for the use of wrinkle skin injections. Perlane is a hyaluronic acid based filler that is in gel form. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the skin that offers moisture and support for the skin structure. During the aging process, the skin starts producing less hyaluronic acid, thus wrinkles begin to form. Perlane skin injections work to replace the natural hyaluronic acid in the skin. This results in added moisture and plumps up the skin, to create a more youthful appearance. To reduce facial skin wrinkles use Perlane.

Typically, Perlane Skin Injections are used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. An example of this would be the deep lines that can extend from the nose to the corner of the mouth. Another popular treatment used with Perlane is lip augmentation. Often times it is injected along the border of the lips to enhance the fullness. Prior testing is not required, since hyaluronic acid is found in the body.
Alternatives to a Perlane treatment could be Radiesse, Juvederm or Restylane Injections. They each offer specific benefits, and ranges of duration. It is important to speak with your physician regarding which treatment plan would be best for you.
Even though Perlane Skin Injections are not permanent, it is chemically cross-linked to slow down the breakdown process by the skins enzymes. This enables it to continue working for roughly six months. Perlane will gradually disappear from the body without a trace.
Immediately after Perlane Skin Injections, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness or itching sensation at the treated area. This is a typical reaction to an injection and the inconvenience is temporary, it generally goes away in a day or two.
It is important to avoid using St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as Ibuprofen prior to treatment. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with your physician who may consider prescribing a medication to minimize recurrence.
Typically, we recommend keeping an icepack on the treated area for 15 minutes to reduce possible swelling. You may take arnica (under the tongue) every two hours for the first day or two if any bruising occurs.
