The unique aspect of the CoolFractional Laser is that it works with your body to correct the damage. With the help of thousands of tiny microscopic laser spots, little “wounds” are created within the treatment area. These “wounds” then trigger the body’s natural healing process, thus accelerating the production of collagen and healthy skin cells. This process will occur over the following weeks and months after treatment. The body begins to repair the deeper dermal tissue that has been affected by the CoolFractional Laser treatment, resulting in healthier more youthful appearing skin.
CoolFractional Laser treatments target only a fraction of the skin at one time. The surrounding tissue is left untouched thus allowing for a faster healing process. Most patients are able to continue with their normal daily routine, but some do require a little more time. This varies on the individual skin condition and treatment.
There can be swelling and redness of the treatment area, which tends to be minimal and usually subsides within a day or two. Typically there is a very limited risk of infection or scarring as a result of treatment. Most patients experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour after treatment, and then only minimal discomfort. It is very normal for the treated skin to have a pinkish hue for 5–7 days after treatment. This is a standard result of the healing process.
