Sculptra is long lasting dermal filler designed to replace lost collagen and provide subtle, natural looking results. A full course of treatment with Sculptra, typically three injection sessions over a few months, has been shown to last up to two years.* In 2009 the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) approved Sculptra for use in the United states for the correction of shallow to deep smile lines (nasolabial folds).

Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that has been used by physicians for decades. For many people facial aging, in the form of blemishes, sunspots and wrinkles, may begin in their 20’s and become more and more pronounced with age. As you get older, your body naturally reduces the production of collagen, a key component to maintaining the skin’s youthful and smooth appearance. Collagen helps give structure to the skin and retain hyaluronic acid (lubricates the skin to keep it moist) and elastin (helps maintain shape).

Sculptra works within the deep dermis to replace lost collagen by targeting the underlying sources of facial aging. Results emerge subtly but noticeably as the skin’s collagen structure is reinforced and fullness is gradually restored to deep facial folds and wrinkles. Typically, visible improvement will appear within the first few weeks of the initial treatment.

• Marionette lines – the lines framing your mouth
• Nasolabial folds – the folds between the mouth and the nose (smile lines)
• Chin wrinkles

Sculptra Safety**

Sculptra has been used to treat over 150,000 patients worldwide since 1999 and received FDA approval for the treatment of smile lines in 2009. Sculptra does not contain any animal or human ingredients and therefore requires no allergy testing prior to treatment. The most common side effects may include bruising, itching, bleeding, redness, swelling and pain at the injection site (please note: this is not intended to be a comprehensive list). These side effects are common to all dermal fillers and are typically temporary.

Sculptra Aftercare

• Applying an ice pack within the first 24 hours of treatment will help reduce swelling
• Massaging the area a few times a day for several days is also recommended
• Avoid direct sunlight and UV lamp exposure
