As with any procedure thought it is possible to have a transient pigmentation change, swelling, and or discomfort in the treated area. A thorough evaluation by the treating physician is necessary to ensure optimal results.
There is little to no recovery time needed for this form of skin light therapy. Most patients return to work the same day or the following day. If at any time after the procedure a patient has a question or concern regarding their recovery we ask that they contact us.
The level of discomfort during Blue Light Therapy is different for every individual and also varies by the location and surface area to be treated. Many patients do not request any pain medication during treatment and relate the discomfort as comparable to that of sunburn. Other patients will appreciate a topical anesthetic. The physician will have a discussion with the individual regarding pain tolerance levels and specific areas that are to be treated. Although over the counter medication is typically sufficient, your physician may recommend alternative pain relief options to keep you comfortable.

Due to a variety of factors, an individualized pre-treatment plan will be prescribed by the physician. This will utilize a regimen tailored specifically to meet the patient’s needs, regarding to which areas are to be treated with skin light therapy. At the time of the procedure, you will also be given specific instructions on how to care for your skin immediately following your treatment.
After having blue light therapy, expect to have mild swelling, and some skin redness — all easily treated with ice packs and soothing ointments. Both will aid the healing process, and make you feel better. We will give you instructions on how to gently wash and care for your healing skin.
