Some moles are benign that is they are completely harmless and except for their strange appearance don’t cause any problems. But others can be cancerous. So if you have a mole it is important to get a doctor to figure it out before you get a treatment for moles on the face. Continue reading

February 24, 2010 — Epione Medical Corporation, under the guidance of Medical Director Simon Ourian, M.D., has been using a novel approach to make hands look younger and softer. The treatment method involves Radiesse injections, the dermal filler used to treat facial wrinkles and folds.
A revolutionary procedure for breast augmentation, Macrolane, once only available in countries outside of America, will soon be available in the United States.
A major development in the art of breast augmentation will become available in the United States — Macrolane. Patients may soon experience the benefits of this procedure that Doctor Simon Ourian plans to offer at Epione Beverly Hills.
Full, firm breasts that do not sag are the admiration of many. Women, who prided themselves on having attractive breasts when they were younger, often experience a change in their breasts due to aging, nursing, loss of weight and more. Some women who were born with small breasts want breasts that are larger and that fill out their clothes better. In addition, women who have experienced health problems, such as those who have had a mastectomy, look for options. To correct these issues, breast augmentation has been the choice for many women.
In the United States, the two implant options for breast augmentation are saline-filled implants and silicone-gel-filled implants. However, there is a product that is available outside of the United States in countries such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Singapore and others. That product is called Macrolane. Macrolane is not currently available in the United States. However, this product will be coming to America soon, pending Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
Macrolane is a revolutionary non-surgical treatment for breast enhancement. Consisting of injections, the procedure is quick, non-invasive and can last for up to one year. It represents a real option for those women who have avoided breast augmentation because of the surgery and the risks involved.
Macrolane is the first hyaluronic acid based product used for body shaping. Patients who undergo a Macrolane procedure experience no overnight stay from surgery and can return to their regular work and other activities in a short period of time. A breast augmentation with Macrolane offers a potentially safer solution than surgery and does not appear to interfere with mammogram testing.
Macrolane is also being used to treat other areas of the body. According to the Macrolane’s United Kingdom website: Macrolane is a product for volume restoration and contouring of body surfaces. The most common areas for which Macrolane is currently being used include:
- Post liposuction concavities
- Scar revision
- Male chest (pecs)

Beverly Hills cosmetic Dermatologist, Doctor Simon Ourian M.D. discusses non-surgical alternatives to the traditional rhinoplasty or nose job.
April 6, 2009 — The number one cosmetic surgery for years now has been breast augmentation followed at number two by liposuction. But if you are old enough you might remember a time when a nose job was almost a rite of passage for some teens. For some it was a sweet sixteen present or a gift upon turning eighteen. Perhaps the number of surgical nose jobs is declining because previously unavailable non-surgical options have appeared on the scene.
Doctor Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California. “I would never knock surgical nose jobs, ” says Doctor Ourian, “in fact, I credit the surgical nose job I had when I was eighteen with igniting my interest in medicine and my decision to eventually devote my practice to aesthetics.”
“I was always very self-conscious of my nose and, believe it or not, this caused me to shy away from people. But I was determined to change that so I saved all the money from my after school job and as soon as I turned eighteen I had the procedure done. I have no doubt it changed my life for the better.”
“That was more than twenty years ago, ” continues Doctor Ourian, “and I’ve been able to pass on the gift that was given to me. I’m not a plastic surgeon, I’m a cosmetic Dermatologist and in just the past few years we’ve developed non-surgical options to the traditional rhinoplasty using dermal fillers such as Radiesse. Using Radiesse injections I can hide a bump on the bridge of the nose or balance a nose that appears thicker on one side than the other and overall create the appearance of a straighter more aesthetically plaeasing nose.”
Radiesse is typically the filler of choice for non-surgical nose jobs because of its relative longevity. Radiesse is a composed of tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. The consistency of Radiesse makes it an ideal dermal filler for the spongy areas that make up the nose.
“The two main advantages of a non-surgical none job”, explains Doctor Ourian, “are safety and recovery time. There is a risk any time you go under general anesthesia. The non-surgical nose job I perform is done with a local anesthesia. Patients walk in and out under their own power; typically in fifteen minutes or less. And anyone who has had a rhinoplasty knows that the swelling doesn’t completely go down for a year or more. With the non-surgical option you can be back to work the next day and the swelling is gone in a matter of days or week.”
“What is the best non-surgical nose job and where can you get it done?” asks Dr. Ourian. “In my opinion the Radiesse is your best option for a non-surgical nose job. It isn’t for me to say who can best perform this procedure. I suggest that any prospective patient do the research, speak with the doctor and work with someone with whom they believe can best achieve their aesthetic goals. My medical practice has been devoted exclusively to aesthetics for more than ten years. I will let my record speak for itself.”
Renowned cosmetic Dermatologist Dr. Simon Ourian M.D. reports a rise in requests for non-surgical cheeklifts by clients of his Los Angeles, California institute, Epione Beverly Hills.
March 22, 2009 — Strong, high cheekbones have always been a hallmark of beauty. Unfortunately most people aren’t lucky enough to have been born with them. Weak, sunken cheeks, an unfortunate side effect of aging, can make a patient’s face appear emaciated.
According to Dr. Simon Ourian for years plastic surgeons have used facial implants to effectively augment the bone structure of the cheek region and to help restore a more youthful appearance. “Today I can offer comparable results without the risks of surgery, ” says Dr. Ourian. “I can inject dermal fillers such as Radiesse or Juvéderm to restore the fullness to a patient’s cheeks that have been lost with aging or to correct flat, unattractive cheeks and achieve a more symmetrical facial shape that is oval or heart shaped.”
A traditional cosmetic surgery procedure for cheek augmentation involves an incision on either inside of the patient’s upper lip or lower eyelid. A pocket is then created and a solid silicone implant is inserted. If the cheeks implants are being done at the same time as another cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery, the surgeon may use the incisions he’s already made for those procedures. Stitches are used to close the incisions and these usually dissolve within about 10 days.
While many plastic surgeons have seen the economy eat into their practice Dr. Ourian says that he isn’t surprised more patients are asking him about their non-surgical options. “Traditional plastic surgery costs are high because patients typically have to pay for the time of their plastic surgeon as well as the time of an anesthesiologist and the use of an operating theater”, states Dr. Ourian. “A hidden cost, but one which I’m sure is on the minds of more consumers than ever, is the downtime. If you can’t work, you can’t earn a living. And I think people aren’t certain leaving their job for a week or more is the best idea in these uncertain economic times.”
“I can offer them a non-surgical option that is safe and fast with a recovery that is typically quick and minimal downtime. I can do this in my Beverly Hills clinic on an out-patient basis. I customize the treatment for each patient, injecting only the amount of dermal filler required. If necessary, I can do a touch-up treatment later to achieve the maximum aesthetic result.”

Many plastic surgeons are suffering from the downturn in the economy as people postpone or cancel their costly cosmetic surgery procedures. But renowned cosmetic Dermatologist Dr. Simon Ourian M.D. says that these very same people are turning to him, and his center Epione Beverly Hills, for the minimally invasive procedures in which he specializes.
March 22, 2009 — The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), just released a new survey showing there were more than 10 million surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. in 2008. That’s about 1 million fewer than in 2007, representing a 12% decrease in the total number of cosmetic procedures. The survey does seem to indicate though a clear shift toward noninvasive procedures The ASAPS has been conducting these surveys since 1997 and cosmetic procedures are up and average of 65% since 1997, minimally invasive procedures are up 239%.
“It is important to appreciate the distinction between invasive surgical procedures and minimally invasive procedures, ” states Dr. Ourian, “in order to understand the numbers. In the simplest sense invasive procedures typically involve the skin being cut. While some invasive procedures are now performed in-office most still require an operating room of some sort. To make these procedures more appealing to potential patients plastic surgeons are performing some under a local, rather than general, anesthesia.”
“Some examples of invasive procedures are: breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery. The costs are high because patients typically have to pay for the time of their plastic surgeon as well as the time of an anesthesiologist and the use of an operating theater. A hidden cost, but one which I’m sure is on the minds of more consumers than ever, is the downtime. If you can’t work, you can’t earn a living. And even if you’re taking paid time off to recover, I think people aren’t sure leaving their job for a week or more is a good idea these days.”
“Minimally invasive procedures on the other hand”, continues Dr. Ourian, “offer long-lasting results and little to no downtime, typically at a fraction of the cost of invasive cosmetic surgery.”
According to Allergan Inc. the manufacturer of Botox, Dr. Ourian’s Epione Beverly Hills is the busiest Botox office in Southern California. “I certainly pride myself on this, ” notes Dr. Ourian, “but minimally invasive procedures means a lot more than Botox these days. I am a big proponent of dermal fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane, Juvéderm, and Perlane. With a simple injection or series of injections I can eliminate wrinkles and facial folds.”
“I know that these are difficult times for some of my colleagues who are excellent plastic surgeons and Dermatologists, ” concludes Dr. Ourian, “but we still maintain a waiting list. Some procedures such as Botox and laser hair removal are as popular today as they’ve ever been. We also offer a line of skin care products.”
