Cellulite Removal: Know The Facts

cellulite removedCellulite is the name usually given to describe superficial deposits of fat under the skin, which may cause dimpling or “cottage cheese” skin. Almost all women past puberty will experience some amount of cellulite, and some men, though the condition is rarer for them. Cellulite is not necessarily related to obesity or poor health as even women with a healthy amount of body fat may still experience cellulite deposits. As a result it is not uncommon for women of a broad range of ages and body types to seek cellulite removal.

Cellulite removal with the breakthrough OptiLipo system

Cellulite RemovalBEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 9, 2010 — Nine out of ten women suffer from cellulite, and labor in the seemingly-difficult chore of its removal. However, the removal of cellulite is no longer such a mystery, thanks to a groundbreaking new cellulite treatment regimen developed by Dr. Simon Ourian, medical director of Epione Medical in Beverly Hills.

The treatment combines Trans-dermal Acoustic Therapy (TAT) with Dr. Ourian’s distinct OptiLipo system. The result is a non-invasive cellulite treatment regimen which has helped many patients to begin changing the tide in what is for most women a lifelong battle against cellulite. OptiLipo, combined with TAT treatments, results in a visible firming and smoothing of the skin and improved skin texture and elasticity.

Invasive cellulite removal treatments, such as liposuction and tummy tuck procedures, do not in fact treat cellulite and, conversely, often end up enhancing preexisting cellulite and even making the preexisting cellulite more prominent. “There have been so many different treatments for cellulite introduced over the years, and most of them just do not work very well,” said Dr. Ourian. “It’s such a common problem, but I’ve always felt there are better, non-invasive methods for treating cellulite. That’s why I devised the OptiLipo program, to help the thousands of women who suffer from cellulite with a treatment that really works, is non-invasive, and after which you can just go back to your life as it was. Well, for the most part. Life might be a little brighter once you start noticing the differences in the mirror…”

The result is a non-invasive cellulite treatment regimen which has helped many patients to begin changing the tide in what is for most women a lifelong battle against cellulite.

OptiLipo is a non-surgical procedure that does not require hospital admittance, general anesthesia, or downtime and there are no extensive medical evaluations required prior to treatment. That is because OptiLipo involves the simple injection of microscopic quantities of natural plant extracts, homeopathic agents and vitamins into the skin. Customized, along with TAT treatments, to cater to the unique make-up of each patient, OptiLipo can in some cases result in immediate removal of cellulite.

TAT produces an acoustic pressure wave through the skin and fat to impact the fibrous septae. The pressure breaks up the collagen of the septae and releases the skin, which allows for a smoother surface and also helps to thicken the dermis and decrease fat protrusion. Over the course of several sessions, OptiLipo, combined with TAT, reduces the ability of the body to store fat and stimulates its ability to burn it up.

“These treatments, along with many others, make me so proud of what I do,” said Dr. Ourian. “I’ve seen so many women who suffer with their self-esteem and self-image after years and years of trying everything out there, and I mean everything, to get rid of cellulite. There’s no need for that anymore. And there’s no need for dangerous, invasive methods, either.”

Dr. Ourian and the Epione laser and aesthetic medical center, specializes in minimally invasive procedures. To learn more about Epione Beverly Hills and its signature products and treatments, sign up for Epione’s newsletter and receive a $100 gift card instantly.

Why More Women are Choosing OptiLipo over Liposuction

young womanLOS ANGELES, Calif. — For many years, liposuction has been a popular choice for women who want to target problem areas and achieve a slimmer, smoother and firmer appearance. However, the procedure is not without its drawbacks, posing health dangers to some and short-lived results for others. To combat many of the ‘cons’ of liposuction, Epione Medical Corporation, a state-of-the-art aesthetic surgery center, now offers OptiLipo, a revolutionary alternative to liposuction. The procedure may successfully flush fat, block the ability to store fat and achieve long-lasting results, among other benefits.

“At Epione, we offer the latest and most progressive technology and aesthetic procedures in order to help out clients achieve the results they want, and look and feel better than ever before,” said Dr. Simon Ourian, medical director. “OptiLipo has quickly become the premier choice for women wanting to get rid of excess fat and cellulite without undergoing anesthesia or having to worry about future weight gain.”

Revolutionary OptiLipo Treatment Flushes Fat, Fights Cellulite and Post-Treatment Weight Gain and Achieves a Smoother, Firmer Skin Surface

During the OptiLipo procedure, problem areas are injected with microscopic quantities of natural plant extracts, homeopathic, pharmaceutical agents and vitamins. The procedure targets fat reduction in desired areas, flushes the fat out and over the course of several sessions, blocks the body’s ability to store fat in those areas, while simultaneously stimulating the body’s ability to burn fat.

OptiLipo offers a number of benefits that liposuction does not:

  1. OptiLipo is non-surgical procedure that does not require anesthesia, posing far less health dangers than liposuction.
  2. OptiLipo achieves a smoother skin surface, and does not enhance preexisting cellulite, which often occurs with liposuction.
  3. No extensive medical evaluations or elaborate laboratory data is required prior to undergoing the OptiLipo procedure.

On average, based on the patient’s condition, results can be seen in two to three sessions. Some patients will see immediate results. Treatments are minimally invasive and recovery is immediate.

In addition to electing for OptiLipo as an alternative to liposuction, the treatment may also effective for aging skin, redundant or sagging skin, hand rejuvenation and neck rejuvenation.

“OptiLipo is one of the most popular procedures for women who want to reverse the signs of aging, regain a more youthful appearance and look fantastic in their clothes and swimwear,” said Dr. Ourian. “Schedule a consultation and let’s discuss how OptiLipo can help you get amazing results.”

Best Celebrity Stretch Mark Treatment?

Do celebrities suffer from stretch marks? “You better believe it!” says Beverly Hills cosmetic dermatologist Doctor Simon Ourian. He considers that CoolBeam, the treatment he developed, is the most effective way to deal with stretch marks.

May 04, 2009 — Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California treats celebrities all the time. “Quite a few actresses and models come to my clinic and stretch mark removal is at the top of their list of concerns,” says Doctor Ourian.

“Before they step in front of the camera,” continues Doctor Ourian, “they have a team of makeup artists whose sole responsibility is to camouflage their flaws. Lighting people, cinematographers and directors shoot them from the best angles. And anything that winds up in a magazine or on a magazine cover is re-touched with Photoshop.”

“The problem is that celebrities can no longer control every photo that’s taken of them. In fact, there are websites devoted exclusively to catching celebrities in their most unflattering light. We’ve all seen the photos of cellulite and stretch marks.”

Doctor Ourian continues, “Stretch marks don’t discriminate. If you lose a lot of weight or get pregnant you’re likely to get stretch marks [video] even if you’re famous. Kate Beckinsale, one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood, was quoted as saying: ‘I don’t know how people think you can go from eight-and-a-half stone (119 pounds) to over 12 stone (168 pounds) when you’re pregnant and not get them. I’ve got stretch marks everywhere.’

Beckinsale was actually accused of getting stretch marks as the result of breast enlargement surgery (which she denies). “I see augmentation related stretch marks all the time in my practice,” says Doctor Ourian, “anytime you stress the skin, as you must with a breast augmentation procedure, you run the risk of getting stretch marks. It’s the same for men who get heavily bulked up in the gym.”

If you put the body under too much stress too quickly it may cause a gap to appear in the dermis as the result of a tearing or stretching of the elastin and collagen fibers that form lattice responsible for firmness and tone. Rapid weight gain can stretch these fibers to the bursting point. Extreme and rapid weight loss can deprive the body of the nutrients it needs to rejuvenate itself.

“I just typed “celebrity stretch marks” into Google,” Doctor Ourian continues, “and there are uncomplimentary photos of Halle Berry (post-partum), Scarlett Johansson, Cindy Crawford and Sienna Miller. And that’s just the first page of results!”

Two types of rapid weight loss account for a lot of the celebrity stretch marks Doctor Ourian sees: lap band or bariatric surgery for celebrities who are obese and more commonly with Doctor Ourian’s celebrity clientele, crash dieting for those actresses and models trying to achieve what they consider the ideal body and weight.

“If a celebrity or any patient asks,” states Doctor Ourian, “I would never recommend any type of crash diet. I will tell a patient that the key to maintaining weight loss and preventing weight gain is a healthy low fat diet. Regular exercise will help you burn fat. I’m very happy to help anyone I can to lose fat and get a jump start on their new body. But celebrities face enormous pressure to look a certain way and they’ll do whatever it takes to achieve that.”

Doctor Ourian goes on to explain what he believes to be the most effective way to treat stretch marks. “I developed the Coolbeam treatment specifically to treat stretch marks, both white and red and I believe it achieves results superior to other modalities and lasers. In conjunction with Coolbeam treatments I have my patients use the prescription strength Firm & Fade cream that is available only at my clinic.”

“There are a lot of creams and potions out there,” continues Doctor Ourian, “most of them don’t accomplish much at all. In fact some of them are pure junk. I’ve worked very hard over the years with a pharmacist to perfect our Firm & Fade prescription cream and it’s available exclusively to my patients.”

As far as the treatment itself, according to Doctor Ourian “For most of my patients the consensus is that there’s very little pain associated with a CoolBeam session. If necessary we can use a topical anesthetic cream to alleviate any discomfort for patients that are very sensitive to pain.”

Cellulite Treatments

Say Goodbye to Cellulite!Cellulite is the appearance of small pockets of fat on the thighs, abdomen, and buttocks of 90 percent of post-adolescent women. This uneven dimpling makes is a cause of distress for many and can occur in women of all sizes and shapes.

The Hormonal Connection

Cellulite tends to develop mainly in women undergoing a hormonal change. Puberty, pregnancy, and menopause are all examples of this. Hormones control lymphatic tissue, blood flow, fat storage and connective tissue buildup, all of which are factors of cellulite. Many different changes may happen to the fat layer over time, which can result in cellulite. And, as time passes, its appearance may worsen. A healthy lifestyle may help ease this problem and other treatments are available as well.

Treatments for cellulite focus on its appearance, not its elimination. Also, cellulite can continue to develop throughout out lifetimes, so no treatment can truly get rid of it. However, the appearance of cellulite can be improved by promoting drainage of the lymph nodes, tightening the skin, and enhancing skin tone. A holistic approach is the best way to treat this unsightly problem.

Popular Cellulite Treatments

Endermologie is a treatment that is FDA approved for cellulite reduction. Endermologie uses a set of rollers and regulated suction to massage away the cellulite. The massage stimulates blood flow and connective tissue growth, thus eliminating the cellulite. This procedure is non-invasive and non-surgical. It can also be used for skin toning.

OptiLipo is another treatment that involves small injections directly into the cellulite in order to dissolve it. The body then eliminates the fat with other waste. OptiLipo can be used on any section of the body that contains cellulite or smaller fat deposits, such as double chins or love handles.

Ultralipo is another advanced treatment for cellulite. It combines Transdermal Acoustic Therapy (TAT) and mesotherapy. The TAT treatment uses sonic waves to break up the collagen and releases the skin, smoothing out the texture. The mesotherapy then breaks down the fat tissue so that the body can rid itself of it. Patients may begin to see results soon after their last treatment, which can vary depending on the patient.

Massage in and of itself is excellent for increasing circulation and draining the lymph nodes. It can also relieve muscles spasms and gets rid of tissue buildup. Body wraps can cause temporary fluid loss due to compression and massage. They may use materials such as aloe, seaweed or mud. Unfortunately, massages alone will not decrease cellulite.

Electric muscle stimulators such as TENS units have occasionally been used to treat cellulite. The stimulators use a direct current to break up scar tissue below the skin, as well as fat cells and fluid pockets. Patients should be aware, however, that the FDA does not consider this type of treatment effective for cellulite.

Liposuction has been used to treat fat deposits and cellulite, but the focus is on fat areas, not the cellulite itself. Often, this distinction can be lost. In fact, when a great deal of fat is removed from an area that also contains cellulite it can make the cellulite look worse than it did prior to surgery.

Alpha-hydroxy acids and other creams and gels can help hasten the exfoliation process, which can help with new, tight skin growth. These are also not FDA approved for cellulite removal.

Losing weight can help shrink the size of fat cells, which will get rid of dimples. While diet and exercise can help reduce cellulite’s appearance, they can never eliminate it completely. It can, however, make other treatments more effective.

OptiLipo – The New Liposuction?

So you’ve worked really hard to lose weight. You’ve dieted, you’ve exercised, and you’ve done your best to avoid food cravings and other temptations. Despite your efforts, those stubborn love handles and double chin refuse to go away. If this sounds like you, it may be time to consider mesotherapy as a treatment.

OptiLipo is a revolutionary treatment that melts fat away in specific areas using a chemical that appears in bile acids (found in the human body) and cell membranes. Injections are given every two weeks, with the number of injections varying depending on the amount of fat in the area. OptiLipo works particularly well with cellulite, dissolving and smoothing out the affected area. Due to the body’s natural healing response, an additional benefit of mesotherapy is skin tightening.

“One reason that I’m pleased to offer mesotherapy,” says Doctor Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, “is that we can use it to treat cellulite directly. Liposuction, on the other hand, does not treat cellulite and often ends up enhancing preexisting cellulite, making the cellulite more prominent. With mesotherapy the result is often a smoother skin surface.”

“What mesotherapy can do over the course of several sessions,” continues Doctor Ourian, “is block the body’s ability to store fat and stimulate its ability to burn it. We can target specific areas of fat and treat that area directly by injecting a blend of medications, vitamins and supplements.”

The optimal results of cellulite removal by mesotherapy are seen three weeks after the last treatment. Patients can see visible firming and smoothing of the skin, including:

  • Improved skin texture
  • Improved skin elasticity
  • Increased tone and firmness
  • Reduced circumference and a more refined figure

It is important to note that mesotherapy, as well as other cosmetic weight loss procedures, such as liposuction, are not recommended substitutes for a healthy diet and weight loss plan. On the contrary, mesotherapy is intended to aid a healthy diet plan and help remove fat pockets that diet and exercise alone may not remedy. An ideal candidate is within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight. Being as fit as possible before undergoing the procedure will maximize the end results.

During your treatment, the desired area will be injected and the process will take between 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the treatment area. After treatment, side effects are minimal. In rare cases, small nodules may form in the injection areas. These aren’t harmful and should disappear in a matter of weeks. OptiLipo doesn’t involve surgery or anesthesia.

Although an effective treatment for many, mesotherapy isn’t an ideal treatment option for everyone. Diabetics, people on blood thinners, those with hypertension or heart problems, or any debilitating condition, should not undergo this treatment.

Help for Women with Cellulite is Here

Women who want to get rid of the common condition known as cellulite can do so with cosmetic procedures.

Life isn’t fair, especially when it comes to the condition known as cellulite. Although it is rare to find cellulite on men, up to 90 percent of women suffer from cellulite.

Cellulite, which resembles the unevenness of cottage cheese, are ripples in the skin found mainly on the thighs and the buttocks. The condition is due to a variety of causes including hormones, genetics, aging and more. Cellulite forms when collagen and elastin break down and fat becomes trapped in the lower dermis area of the skin.

Women who have always been thin may be surprised that they now have cellulite. It is a myth that only overweight women suffer from cellulite. You don’t have to be overweight to have the condition. Many females, who did not have cellulite before, are seeing it now, especially as they enter middle age.

Many people consider cellulite unsightly. Indeed, celebrity women never want to be shown exhibiting cellulite. In fact, it is common for celebrity photos to be retouched in order to hide cellulite. Clothing that is revealing such as bathing suits, short skirts and short dresses are a problem for those women who do not want to reveal their cellulite to the world.

In addition to a good diet and plenty of exercise, which are always recommended to reduce cellulite, today the embarrassment of cellulite can be reduced with the help of advanced cosmetic procedures.

What procedure will be best for you? You should consult with a doctor to determine the best cosmetic procedure to remove your cellulite. A top, qualified facility led by an experienced doctor will offer you a free consultation to review your condition and come up with the best therapy, without a cookie cutter approach. For example, Trans Dermal Acoustic Therapy, offered at Epione Beverly Hills, may provide results after three weeks without downtime. Patients may see a significant reduction in the appearance of cellulite will occur, ending the embarrassment of a “cottage cheese” appearance.

Simon Ourian Discusses the New Non-Surgical Liposuction

Surgical Liposuction procedures were down 25% in 2008. It’s not just the economy says renowned cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Simon Ourian M.D. The introduction of minimally invasive procedures has provided a real alternative for patients seeking to lose fat and reduce cellulite.

March 25, 2009 — Liposuction is still the second most popular plastic surgery procedure, taking in more than $900 million in 2008, with more than 341,000 procedures performed in 2008. Breast augmentation is the number one invasive cosmetic surgery procedure.

Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione, located in Beverly Hills, the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California knows all about it. “Every day I have patients and friends asking my opinion on the best weight loss program or weight loss pills,” he says. “They want to know what I think about dieting and various diets. Most of all they want to lose fat and reduce cellulite.”

“And they want to talk about liposuction and SmartLipo”, Dr. Ourian continues. “Traditional liposuction is one option as is SmartLipo, a laser assisted liposuction, I tell them, but there are other, less invasive alternatives. I’m a big proponent of mesotherapy.”

OptiLipo is a series of injections of microscopic quantities of homeopathic agents, pharmaceuticals, natural plant extracts, agents and vitamins into the skin. The doctor selects a customized formula designed to treat the condition at hand. OptiLipo can be used to treat cellulite and reduce fat including spot reduction.

OptiLipo has some obvious benefits over liposuction. Meso can be used for cellulite reduction while lipo can often exacerbate a preexisting cellulite condition, making the cellulite more prominent. OptiLipo treatments can result in a smoother skin surface. Unlike lipo, meso can also target fat reduction. Fat deposits can be flushed out of specific areas. It is not uncommon after liposuction for patients to gain weight back in other areas. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that may require hospital admittance, general anesthesia and downtime which isn’t the case for mesotherapy. OptiLipo treatments don’t necessitate extensive medical evaluations nor is elaborate laboratory data required prior to treatment. Finally, it is not uncommon that a liposuction patient may ultimately need a plastic surgeon to perform a tummy tuck to address folds of extra skin.

What does a mesotherapy session feel like? According to Dr. Ourian: “During mesotherapy sessions the patient might feel a slight pinching or burning sensation. I can prescribe a topical anesthetic cream to help alleviate any discomfort. After the session,” continues Dr. Ourian, “you may experience slight bruising which resolves over one week. To speed up the healing process, I may recommend supplements such as Arnica to be taken orally or topical ointments to help decrease bruising.”

“Please be careful,” warns Dr. Ourian, “not all mesotherapy is the same. Some treatments like Lipodissolve involve a chemical called phosphatidylcholine that is not FDA approved.”

“I tell to all my patients that a healthy diet low in fat is crucial to maintaining weight loss and preventing weight gain. Regular exercise will help you burn fat. If you come to my medical spa I can help you lose fat and get a jump start on your new body.”

Dr. Ourian’s Epione Medical Corporation, located in Beverly Hills Golden Triangle, is among the most comprehensive and state-of-the-art laser and aesthetic surgery centers. Dr. Ourian has been a pioneer for laser technology and non-invasive aesthetic procedures including Restylane, Botox, Juvéderm, Radiesse and Sculptra.
