Hyaluronic acid on which Restylane is based is present in all living organisms. Its availability in skin creates volume, and therefore a more youthful and healthy appearance. Restylane contains hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal-clear gel injected into the skin to lift the lip, wrinkle or fold. Once in the skin, Restylane works together with the body's own hyaluronic acid and joins forces to create volume.

Restylane is a safe product. Since hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the body, the skin does not react to the material. With over 100 000 people treated today, only a very small number of reactions have been reported. These reactions may consist of prolonged but temporary redness, swelling, itching or tenderness. Most have lasted for a couple of weeks.
Immediately after Restylane treatment, there may be a slight redness, swelling, tenderness or itching sensation at the treated area. This is only normal cause of the injection and the inconvenience is temporary, it generally goes away in a day or two.
Pain during Restylane injections is very individually depending on how pain sensitive you are. Keep an icepack on the treated area for 15 minutes after injection to reduce possible swelling. You may take arnica (under the tongue) every two hours for the first day or two if any bruising occurs.
