Beverly Hills cosmetic dermatologist, Doctor Simon Ourian M.D. discusses laser hair removal and the best way to treat bikini bumps and razor bumps.

The scientific name for razor bumps is pseudofolliculitis barbae or PFB. PFB is caused by the process of shaving with a blade or razor. The hair is cut at an angle, making it sharp. Curly hair then may twist back toward and puncture the skin and become ingrown. The end result is bumps and skin irritation. In men razor bumps most commonly occur on the neck and face. Men with course or curly hair are especially prone to razor bumps. It is thought that as many as 30% of African American men suffer from this affliction. For women the bikini area is the most commonly affected. Many women who shave their bikini line suffer from irritated skin.
