Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal does exactly what it says: it removes (unwanted) hair using a laser beam of light. This procedure is well suited for large areas, like the back, legs and arms, as well as small areas, such as hair on the chin and upper lip.

Temporary alternatives to laser hair removal are shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, tweezing. The permanent alternative is Electrolysis.

The benefits of laser hair removal are obvious - you will never have to use a razor, or tweezers again! You will never have to wax again! Gets rid of your razor bumps. Gets rid of ingrown hairs. The fastest method of long lasting hair removal. Treatments are affordable. Treatment is safe, gentle, and fast.

During the laser hair removal procedure a focused beam of light emitted by the laser is absorbed only through the pigment located in the hair follicle. The light is pulsed for only a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is just long enough to disable the follicle, but not so long that excess heat is transferred to the skin surrounding the hair. When the hair follicle absorbs the light, it is destroyed.

Laser hair removal is a right procedure for women and men who have unwanted hair on any facial and body part; Women with hormonal imbalance that has resulted in excessive body or facial hair; Women or men who have excessive hair growth due to medications. You're tired of shaving your legs or underarms every day. Your skin gets a rash, irritated, or bumps form after shaving. If you get ingrown hairs. You have noticeable, embarrassing hair growing from your chin or upper lip. Laser hair removal does not work well on white, gray, blonde or red hair.

Improvement after removing unwanted hair with laser is often excellent, but may not be perfect or permanent within the first couple of treatments. Dark hair is usually easier to treat than light hair. With each treatment you will see significant reduction in the quantity and the thickness of the hair follicles in the treated area.

Lasers have been used for many years for a variety of medical procedures. They have an extraordinary track record for safety and accuracy. Immediately after the treatment the areas may appear red. Pain is generally mild and transient. Side effects are uncommon and generally temporary.

In majority of cases there is no recovery time after laser hair removal. However if any skin reaction should be transient.

The degree of discomfort during laser hair removal procedure varies with each person depending on one's pain threshold. Topical anesthesia may also be requested based on individual preferences or tolerances. Be sure to discuss this with your physician prior to the laser treatment.

Please make an appointment for consultation before removing hair with laser. If you are an appropriate candidate for treatment, we may do either a test spot or a treatment at that time. Please do not wax, pluck or have electrolysis done for at least 4 weeks before your consultation/treatment. You may clip or shave your hair up to three days prior to your treatment. If you will have treatment of the upper lip please let us know if you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters. Sun exposure and tanning or tanning creams should be avoided for at least 1 month before treatment.

The treated area should be treated gently. Apply Aquaphor ointment 4 times daily if there is scabbing. Also Calandula gel (a homeopathic product) is very helpful in healing the area if there is a sunburn sensation. Sun protection of treated areas is always advisable after treatment. It is best if you minimize sun exposure to the treated area for four weeks after the procedure.

Laser hair removal works for men too. Indeed close to 50 percent of our clients are men. Most common areas for men are: Back and shoulders, behind the neck, and beard area on the neck. Also ears!

Photographs are usually taken before hair removal procedure. You will be asked to read and sign a consent form. A topical anesthetic may be applied to the treated area few minutes prior to the treatment. Everyone in the room will use eye protection. Treatment consists of placing a small hand-piece near the skin and administering laser pulses over the area to be treated. The procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour (or more), depending on the area treated. The treated area may become pink, or red within 30 minutes of the treatment; this may last from few hours to several days and relieved with the application of ice or cooling gel. Typically treated hairs will fall out over a 2-3 week period. You may remove the hairs before they fall out if you desire.

At Epione all treatments are performed by licensed medical doctors and registered nurses specialized in the field of laser medicine.

The lasers work by disabling hairs that are in their active growth cycle at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter their growth cycle at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the follicles in a given area. And light skin is easier to treat than dark or tanned skin. Also the type of laser we use could significantly affect the number of treatments. One should expect 3-5 visits per area to achieve desirable results. Dark hair is usually easier to treat than light hair.

Lasers are updated every few months. We constantly upgrade our lasers and we have the latest cutting edge lasers to ensure the best results for everyone. There is no one laser that works for everyone. During your consultation we will plan the most appropriate therapy for you.

Intervals between visits should be at least 4-12 weeks apart. We work with you to develop the treatment program that best fulfills your hair removal needs.

The duration of each laser hair removal treatment greatly varies on the treating area; upper lip takes a few minutes, whereas a man's back could take over an hour.

Laser hair removal works for dark skin too. Certain types of lasers are specifically designed for the treatment of dark skin. We will evaluate your skin and hair type during your consultation to plan a treatment that matches your specific skin and hair.

There is a common mislead that lasers can cause cancer. Cancer growth has nothing to do with laser, which involves simply removing hair. No cancer causing radiation is produced by lasers.

Laser hair removal is one of the safest and easiest methods for the treatment of ingrown hair on any facial or body part.

All the lasers used at Epione are the latest FDA approved lasers with patented technology.
