Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a new wrinkle buster FDA approved to treat forehead wrinkles and frown lines (glabellar lines) Dysport has previously been approved by more than 20 other countries to treat wrinkles and in some countries to also treat neurological disorders for more than 15 years.
Botox vs. Dysport
Dysport is an injectable form of botulinum toxin Type A as is Botox. The purpose of Dysport and Botox is to paralyze specific wrinkle-causing muscles.
Initial reports suggest that Dysport may act more quickly than Botox which can take 5 to 10 days to work; Dysport may begin to work in 24 hours.
Dysport Side Effects
The potential side effects associated with Dysport are similar to those associated for a Botox treatment. In the amounts used for wrinkle therapy, typical side effects are temporary and localized to the area of injection and include a burning sensation during from the injection swelling, local numbness or bruising. All potential benefits and side-effects will be discussed during your visit to our office.
Nearly all patients choose to continue their routine daily activity immediately after a Dysport treatment.
When Dysport is injected there is an initial minor sting for a few seconds. Once the injection is complete, there is typically no discomfort.
Do not take Aspirin or Ibuprofen-like medications for 1 week prior to a Botox treatment.
After Dysport Treatment Instructions
- Avoid lying down or massaging the treated area for 4 hours after treatment.
- Do not exercise for 24 hours.
- Exercise the treated muscles for a few hours after the treatment.
- If you get a headache (as some people do for few hours after the treatment) you may take a Tylenol, unless otherwise advised by your physician.
- You may take Arnica tablets if there is any bruising in the site of injections, or if you are prone to bruising.
- You will notice the effect of the Dysport; in 5 to 10 days
