Best Migraine Treatment?

Doctor Simon Ourian is the Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California. “Botox for migraines is a relatively new treatment, “ says Doctor Ourian, “but I’ve found that for my patients, some of whom suffered migraines for decades, the results are nothing short of miraculous.”

For those who suffer from them, migraine headaches can be excruciating and debilitating. When a migraine occurs a combination of blood vessels enlarge and the nerve fibers that coil around them release a mixture of chemicals. These chemicals, including serotonin and dopamine, cause pain and inflammation and the swelling of the blood vessels increases the pain. The response of the sympathetic nervous system leads to a cascading of additional symptoms in the intestines causing vomiting, nausea and diarrhea. These intestinal issues also contribute to the ineffectiveness of oral medications taken once a migraine has commenced. Sensitivity to light and sound and blurred vision are also common migraine symptoms attributable to the response of the sympathetic nervous system.

“The reason that my patients are so enthusiastic about this treatment is that it preventative rather than reactive, “ continues Doctor Ourian. “They’re not waiting for a migraine to hit them and then coming to me to relieve them of the excruciating pain. With Botox we can actually reduce the frequency of migraines attacks. And at the same time we’re reducing the attendant anxiety these patients often suffered waiting for their next migraine to hit. It’s really the gift of freedom.” One very satisfied Epione patient explains, “I’ve gone now from about a dozen (migraines) a year down to two a year…and the severity of them has also diminished.”

Some studies show that as much as 17 percent of females and 6 percent of males in the United States have experienced a migraine headache. “Those numbers seem right to me, about three women to each man, as least as reflected in my practice, “ states Doctor Ourian. “The typical treatment itself is non-invasive and quick, “ says Doctor Ourian, “I simply inject Botox into the side of the neck, the back of the head near the neck, the brow and forehead; really just a more extensive series of injections than that which I provide my cosmetic patients.” (Doctor Ourian is a Diamond provider of Botox according to Allergan, Inc. the manufacturer.)

How long do the results last? “It’s not unusual for a patient to be migraine free for three to six months after each Botox treatment, “ replies Doctor Ourian. “I’ve found, as with other Botox treatments, that the effects may be cumulative. As the muscles become progressively weaker fewer injections may be necessary to achieve the same results or treatments may be scheduled further apart.”

“As my patients can attest, Botox treatments for migraines are nothing short of life altering. In the time I’ve been practicing as a physician, “ concludes Doctor Ourian, “I have not seen another preventative treatment modality achieve superior results for the prophylactic treatment of migraines than Botox injections.”

Best TMJ Treatment?

Beverly Hills physician Doctor Simon Ourian M.D. discusses treating TMJ with Botox injections. He believes it’s the best available treatment to deal with this painful problem.

Doctor Simon Ourian is the Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, located in the exclusive shopping, restaurant and hotel enclave in Los Angeles, California. “If asked, I’d say my practice is devoted exclusively to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, “ says Doctor Ourian, “but the fact is we are finding therapeutic uses for products such as Botox all the time. One such example, the use of Botox to treat TMJ, in my experience, can be life-changing for some patients.”

TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, sometimes known as TMD, affects an area that includes the jaw, the muscles surrounding the jaw, the hinge jaw joint and the temporal bone of the skull. The hinge jaw joint is the bridge for the lower jaw or mandible and the temporal bone is located in front of each ear. These joints and muscles work together and a problem with either one can lead to headaches, bite problems, ear pain, stiffness, clicking and even locked jaws.

It is believed that certain behaviors may lead to the development of TMJ in an individual patient:

  • Teeth grinding and clenching
  • Misalignment of the teeth
  • Fingernail chewing and biting
  • Gum chewing
  • Stress

It is believed that more than 15% of adult Americans suffer some level chronic facial pain. “TMJ probably effects men and women equally, “ states Doctor Ourian, “at least in my practice. I’ve been treating patients with TMJ with Botox for several years now and it is truly gratifying to relieve their suffering with what is, essentially, a simple procedure. And I don’t use the word ‘suffering’ lightly; some of my patients have had debilitating and life-altering pain for years, even decades.”

Doctor Ourian continues, “To start, I usually inject Botox into the frontalis, masseter and temporalis muscles. I inject only those muscles that are causing a problem so that jaw function is not impacted. It’s not uncommon, once the pain of opening and closing of the jaw is treated for functionality to increase.”

How long do the results last? “It’s not unusual for a patient to be pain free for four months or more after one Botox treatment, ” replies Doctor Ourian. “And as I’ve found with other Botox treatments, the effects may be cumulative, the muscles become progressively weaker and fewer injections may be necessary or treatments may be scheduled further apart.”

“It’s almost impossible to understate the impact these Botox treatments have had on the lives of some of my patients, “ says Doctor Ourian, “I had a female patient who wept with joy. Her TMJ pain was excruciating and was the dominating factor in her life essentially dictating what she did or didn’t do on a daily basis. That she suffered to this extent and I was able to help her is both gratifying and humbling.”

“In all the time I’ve been practicing as a physician, “ concludes Doctor Ourian, “I have not seen another treatment modality achieve superior results for the treatment of TMJ than Botox injections.”

Top Botox Doctor in the United States

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) February 5, 2009 — Botox, the alternative to a surgical facelift and other more expensive cosmetic procedures, has become the top choice for addressing fine facial lines and wrinkles. Botox has been FDA approved in more than 75 countries for more than 20 different indications, and is the most popular physician-administered cosmetic procedure in the US (surgical and non surgical combined) for the past 5 years. Dr. Simon Ourian, M.D., of Epione Medical Corporation in Beverly Hills, California, was at the forefront of the launch of Botox, and after ten years performing Botox injections, is regarded as one of the best Botox Doctors in the country. According to Botox producer, Allergan Inc., Dr. Ourian is the number one provider of this wrinkle busting treatment, performing more Botox injections on a yearly basis, than any other physician in California. Epione is currently among Allergan’s elite Diamond Program (only awarded to the top 1% injectors in the country).

Botox is a relatively simple, 10 minute procedure, consisting of a few tiny injections. No anesthesia is required (a cold pack or anesthetic cream may be used). Using a very thin needle, a physician will administer a tiny injection into multiple sites. Botox side effects are quite minimal. According to many of Ourian’s patients, no pain at all is experienced. “Most patients compare the sensation to a bug bite.” Dr.Ourian says. Typically, Botox patients experience temporary bruising at the injection site, but no recuperation time is required. Patients can resume normal activity the same day. After receiving Botox treatment, patients can generally expect a noticeable improvement in the reduction of frown lines within days that may continue to improve during the first week after treatment. With proper dosage and technique, the positive effects of Botox treatment can last up to 4 months. Patients should only need the treatment 3 or 4 times a year, which makes Botox the most effective affordable treatment on the market today.

“Our Botox injection costs are very competitive. We do our best at Epione to keep the prices of Botox as low as possible, in doing so, never compromising the quality of the Botox we offer.” And seemingly the majority of Ourian’s patients agree. “It is quicker than a haircut, less expensive than a dress, and the results are more dramatic than anything else; in 10 minutes.” states long time Epione patient, Patricia J.

Over the years Dr. Ourian has gained the reputation of being an expert in the placement of Botox, which is very technique-dependent in terms of achieving maximum results. Mary (43), a hair stylist from Los Angeles, has received Botox exclusively from Dr. Ourian the past 5 years. “Dr. Ourian is by far the best Botox injector I have ever been to. The precision that goes into each injection is astonishing. Dr. Ourian’s technique is unlike any other, ” says Mary. Mary ads, “after my Botox treatments with Dr. Ourian, I am always flooded with compliments. I get the natural look I desire, each and every time.”

“Individual facial analysis is the key element necessary for consistently good Botox results, ” Says Dr. Ourian. “I usually hand the client a mirror and say, ‘Let’s discuss the issues that bother you.’ In order to achieve the result my patients are looking for, I believe it is important to carefully listen to all their suggestions, questions, and comments. Once I have an understanding of their expectations and goals, I meticulously address the appropriate areas. It is my personal goal, to achieve the desired results for each my patients.”

Dr. Ourian’s popularity and the success of Epione can be attributed to many different factors. Only 100% pure Botox is used at Epione. In addition, Botox used at Epione is the freshest and purest Botox available anywhere. “If at any time my patients are unsatisfied, I insist they return for a free touchup (within 2 weeks of their initial treatment), patient satisfaction is our main goal.”

Prevent Hair Loss with Botox Injections

Botox scalp injectionBeverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) January 14, 2009 — Preliminary findings have shown that Botox injections into the scalp may effectively trigger hair growth. Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills, has tested and refined the procedure over a period of three years with volunteer patients of the Epione Center, an internationally recognized beauty destination in Beverly Hills, Dr. Ourian is now confident in the effectiveness of the treatment and is preparing to undergo controlled clinical studies in order to verify its efficacy and suitability for general use as a marketable hair growth treatment.

The first thing to understand about baldness is that it is not a medical disorder. It is a condition by which hair follicles under the scalp have shrunk to the point where they no longer create new follicles to replace the old dying follicles. Since each follicle usually regenerates every 2–6 years, baldness is a slow but continual physiological process that results in patches of baldness on the scalp connecting with other patches to form a hairline.

Dr. Ourian notes that finding effective baldness treatment is a personal decision, involving many factors including cost, possible benefits, and convenience. The prospective patient looking for ways to treat baldness has more choices now than at anytime in history. Science currently offers two distinct forms of baldness treatments. There is the prescription medication route, which usually involves Minoxidil (Rogaine) and Finasteride (Alopecia), and can be a very cost-effective hair loss remedy.

Rogaine, a solution applied directly to the scalp, slows down hair loss and in some cases can actually grow new hair. Alopecia, on the other hand, does not in most cases grow new hair, but has proved even more effective, especially if detected early, in slowing down and stopping the rate of hair loss. Surgical baldness treatments such as Hair Transplantation, are also a viable option, yet are naturally more expensive than Botox injections or prescription medications. Follicular Micro-Grafting transplants healthy follicles, 1–4 hairs at a time, to an area in need of hair growth. Consequently, producing a look that appears natural is often quite difficult for physicians to achieve.

Sighting studies conducted by Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox, indicating that Botox could be used effectively to relieve migraines, Dr. Ourian’s hair growth discovery originally manifested with treating his own mother for debilitating headaches, a side effect of chemotherapy treatments along with more visible hair loss. Dr. Ourian, an Allergan Diamond Partner, had experienced first-hand the appreciation of patients relieved from the agony of years of suffering from migraine headaches by virtue of Botox scalp injections. Hoping to bring that same relief to his mother, Dr. Ourian injected her scalp with Botox. Not only did her headaches diminish but her follicles were re-growing in the areas surrounding the injections.

“Of course, I was happily surprised by the result, ” said Dr. Ourian, “so I decided to share this discovery with several of my regular patients. Because hair loss is a significant source of insecurity for many people, both men and women, there was no shortage of volunteers with thinning hair.” The results for many were astonishing, and for some, a single session yielded dramatic results.

Typical side effects of the scalp treatments were those normally associated with Botox injections (temporary swelling, pain, bruising, etc). In an effort to increase the efficacy of the treatments, Dr. Ourian added to the injections a cocktail of vitamins generally known to stimulate hair growth which showed improvements in the tissue environment surrounding the hair follicles by reducing scalp tension and improving blood flow. Despite the positive results, Dr. Ourian is quick to state that his findings are anecdotal and that proper clinical trials still need to be done.

Patients Warned About Fake Botox Injections

Between 2004 and July 2008, the FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations opened 210 investigations into health care professionals who purposely injected nearly 1000 patients with fake Botox. Instead, these patients were injected with an unapproved, cheaper substituted product. These investigations have led to 68 arrests and 29 convictions.

Botox and Dermal Fillers: The Perfect Combination

At Epione we consider patient education one of our primary purposes. We believe that one key to patient satisfaction is aligning the results we can offer, and do our best to achieve, with the expectations of our patients. Patient education is fundamental to this relationship. And an educated patient typically has a better understanding of the post-procedural at-home aftercare that is often key to maximizing their results.

Dr. Ourian is a big proponent of combining Botox injections and dermal fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane and Juvederm to achieve optimal results for the patient who wishes to address the wrinkles on her face and obtain a more youthful look.

Why Botox AND dermal fillers? It is important to understand and distinguish between two types of facial wrinkles: dynamic and static. Dynamic wrinkles occur in people of all ages. The creases that you see between and around your eyes when you squint are examples of dynamic wrinkles. They appear temporarily when a muscle contracts and causes the overlying skin to crease like an accordion. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.

Static wrinkles are always visible, even when all the facial muscles are at rest. Static wrinkles cause the deep grooves between the nose and mouth known as naso-labial folds, or smile lines, and tend to develop in skin that has thinned and stretched as a result of the aging process. Dr. Ourian uses dermal fillers to plump up the groove from beneath.

There are even some anecdotal reports suggesting that Botox helps slow down the breakdown of the filler due to less movement in the area by reducing muscle contractions.

I’m 27 – Am I Too Young For Botox?

Not All Botox is Created EqualEveryone knows about the wrinkle-reducing quality of Botox. Botox injections are one of the safest procedures available for the reduction of wrinkles. But did you know that Botox injections may prevent wrinkles before they’re etched into your face? Botox stops the repeated muscle contractions that contribute to wrinkles so you can stay wrinkle-free for the foreseeable future.

Without requiring sedation or anesthesia Botox can reduce frown lines and the horizontal creases in the forehead or minimize the look of crows’ feet and laugh lines.

A few drops of Botox are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear. Botox treatments do not effect normal facial expressions.

Dramatic responses to Botox injections are often seen within a few days. However the results are in most cases temporary and may need to be repeated after 3 to 6 months.

Can Botox Cure Depression?

Major depression is a common and serious disorder. Often, psychotherapy and antidepressants are ineffective, and many patients are resigned to daily suffering. More research is needed, but a growing body of study suggests that modifying facial expressions can positively influence mood.

Several recent studies have indicated that Botox (botulinum toxin A) treatments may offer relief to some sufferers. Specifically, many who have had their furrowed brows eliminated with Botox have reported an improvement in mood. But is it that the Botox treatments simply make people feel better about themselves, thus temporarily lifting their depression? Recent studies suggest that something else may be at work. It was found that patients who had both the motivation to improve their looks cosmetically and sought treatment specifically for depression saw surprising results.

Is there a correlation between the muscles of the face and the inner workings of the brain? In a recent study, ten patients who had ongoing major depression, were treated with Botox. After two months of Botox treatments, they were clinically reevaluated. Nine of the ten patients treated claimed they were no longer depressed. Only one patient experienced no change in mood. Researchers concluded that Botox treatments on frown lines may be an effective treatment for patients with major depression who have not responded to routine pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments. Again, more study is needed, but early results are promising.

According to Dr. Simon Ourian, Epione’s Medical Director: “Botox has been used safely and successfully for wrinkle therapy worldwide for nearly 20 years. Additionally, Botox has been shown to effectively treat migraine headaches and has FDA approval for treating hyperhidrosis. The results of these studies on Botox and depression are very exciting. I look forward to reviewing future data.”

Botox Boom For Men

Botox for MenToday, women aren’t the only ones who want to look their best. Botox is now the most common minimally invasive cosmetic surgery among men. Over the years the amount of men opting for the treatment has increased greatly. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that men accounted for 296, 012 of the Botox procedures performed in America in 2007 alone!

The majority of older men generally have furrowed brow lines that make them look like they are angry or stressed. More and more of these men are turning to non-invasive options like Botox to make themselves look younger and more refreshed. Men are also turning to Botox to help with excessive sweating and migraine headaches.

Epione is one of the nation’s leading providers of Botox, and we can evaluate your needs and make sure you are getting the results you want. So, call 888.931.3366 and make an appointment today!

Get Rid of Sweaty Underarms and Hands Once and For All

Have you ever worn an elegant dress or an amazing shirt out to a special occasion, only to look down in to see immense, embarrassing sweat stains?

You may have a personal problem called hyperhidrosis and we at Epione can help you by using Botox.

The procedure is quite straightforward. First, your problem area is numbed using a special topical cream, and then a few drops of Botox are injected with a tiny needle. That’s it!

Botox was approved by the FDA in 2004 for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) that is inadequately managed with topical agents. The Botox injected into the underarms inhibits the release of a neurotransmitter, acetylcholine, from nerve cells, blocking the signals that stimulate the eccrine glands to produce sweat. Botox blocks the nerve impulse from reaching the area and, as a result, the sweat glands are inactivated.

So go out, be yourself at that big presentation or stressful event and feel self-confident that you’re sweat-free!
