Breast Lift Surgery

About Breast Lift Surgery

The breast lift procedure is done to elevate and reshape the breasts by removing excess skin and some underlying tissue along with repositioning remaining tissue and nipples. In some cases this may be substituted by or combined with breast augmentation surgery.

Alternative to breast lift could be breast augmentation.

Benefits of breast lift are obvious — it will provide a better-looking contour for drooping breasts Help clothing to fit better and look better on you Make your breasts look as young as the rest of you Make your breasts appear firmer Does not require implants.

During breast lift procedure excess skin and some underlying tissue are removed along with repositioning remaining tissue and nipples. In some cases this may be substituted by or combined with breast augmentation surgery.

The best candidates for breast lift surgery are women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most are 30 or older, but if sagging or heavy breasts are a problem, you may decide to have this procedure at a younger age.

Results of breast lift surgery vary: gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight changes may cause new sagging. Results may last longer or be enhanced when breast implants are inserted as part of the procedure.

Long term scaring is the most common problem after breast lift. (See Scar removal); skin loss; & infection are also a rare but possible risks. Unevenly positioned nipples. Permanent loss of feeling in nipples or breasts. Make certain you understand all consent forms.

You can expect to be back to work after breast lift surgery in 1 week or more. Strenuous activities: 1 month. Fading of scars: several months to a year.

Some pain and discomfort is experienced after the breast lift surgery. This can be managed with oral medications.

Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for breast lift surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets and certain medications. If you develop a cold or an infection of any kind, especially a skin infection, your surgery may have to be postponed. Though rare, your doctor may recommend that you have blood drawn ahead of time in case it is needed during surgery. Also, while you are making preparations, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure and, if needed, to help you at home for a day or two. Special accommodations are available for patients who are coming from out of town.

After surgery, you will likely experience some fluid drainage from the incisions. Occasionally, a small drainage tube may be inserted beneath the skin for a couple of days to prevent fluid build-up. To control swelling and to help your skin better fit its new contours, you may be fitted with a snug elastic garment to wear over the treated area for a few weeks. Your doctor may also prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection. Don’t expect to look or feel great right after surgery. Even though the newer techniques are believed to reduce some post-operative discomforts, you may still experience some pain, burning, swelling, bleeding and temporary numbness. Pain can be controlled with medications prescribed by your surgeon, though you may still feel stiff and sore for a few days. It is normal to feel a bit anxious or depressed in the days or weeks following surgery. However, this feeling will subside as you begin to look and feel better. After breast lift surgery, you will likely experience some fluid drainage from the incisions. Breast Lift Testimonials
“I am only 5’4″. So large breasts are not only unattractive on me, but they actually were beginning to hurt my back. Weighing only 110 lbs, I was a full D cup size. By the time I was 26 my breasts were droopy as well. I talked to many doctors before I decided to have the surgery done. I still have some scars on my breasts, but they are already fading….and I can wear all the clothes that I had always wanted to wear.”
