Sculptra is used for the restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. It is the first FDA-approved product of its kind for use by people who have the human immunodeficiency virus.
It involves a series of injections of fine particles of a powder which has been reconstituted in sterile water. What makes Sculptra different is that over the course of several weeks, the body deposits collagen around the fine particles. This new collagen is responsible for the improvement in the appearance of wrinkles and folds. Results from Sculptra are very natural, as the improvement is caused by the stimulation of one’s own collagen and connective tissue. Results can last up to 2 years.
