ArteFill® Injections
The Use of ArteFill® Injections as Wrinkle Filler
About AretFill® Injections
ArteFill® is the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable wrinkle filler for the correction of smile lines. It contains 20% tiny round and smooth particles (PMMA microspheres) and 80% purified bovine collagen gel with 0.3% lidocaine, an anesthetic. This procedure is also regarded as a mini face lift. Mini face lift prices vary greatly based on locale.
An alternative to ArteFill® could be Radiesse®, Juvederm® or Restylane®.
ArteFill® is a dual-acting injectable wrinkle filler. First, ArteFill® visibly corrects the wrinkle. Then the microspheres provide the permanent support the skin needs for long-lasting wrinkle correction.
With the use of ArteFill® as a wrinkle filler, most individuals get the results they desire within 1 or 2 treatments, depending on the depth of their wrinkles and folds. At a later time, the patient and physician can determine if any further treatments are required to further enhance the results. This personalized approach helps to ensure that the individual gets the look they desire.
The FDA has approved ArteFill® for the safe and effective correction of the smile line.
As with any injectable wrinkle filler, you can expect mild swelling and reddening at the treatment site. These side effects are typically gone within 24 hours. Occasionally, there is mild bruising that usually disappears in 3 to 7 days. Less common side effects include a rash and itching for longer than 48 hours after treatment, persistent swelling or redness, and increased sensitivity at some or all injection sites. Two other rare potential side effects of any form of a dermal wrinkle filler may be lumps and granulomas, both of which can be treated by your physician.
The treatment involves injections with a fine needle and takes only a few minutes. You can resume your normal activities immediately.
Discomfort during ArteFill® injections very much depends on the pain sensitivity of the individual patient. The injections may prick a little but normally no anesthesia is needed for the injection of wrinkle fillers for the treatment of wrinkles and folds. Most people report that the injections are relatively painless.
A skin test is a safety precaution taken to make sure that the individual is not allergic to the bovine collagen or anesthetic in ArteFill®.
After an ArteFill® injection, it is recommended to keep an icepack on the area for 15 minutes to reduce possible swelling. An individual may take arnica (under the tongue) every two hours for the first day or two if any bruising occurs.
