About Acne Scar Removal
Severe acne during adolescence often leads to scarring. These scars may vary widely in shape, type and color. An individualized treatment is necessary in treatment of these scars. Most acne scars can be treated successfully using one of the modalities available. Coolaser™ Laser resurfacing is the most often recommended treatment for these scars. Epione offers Acne Scar Removal Treatments in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.
Alternatives to Coolaser Laser Acne Scar Removal would be Microdermabrasion, Topical creams, Chemical peel, Erbium laser resurfacing, CO2 laser resurfacing, and Injectable fillers.
Patients find that the Acne Scar Removal treatment can offer significant before & after results. For this reason, Coolaser Laser Acne Scar Removal is the treatment of choice for many. The process is like sanding the surface of a damaged table so that the scars are less deep. The procedure itself takes about an hour. First, the entire face is numbed, using a topical cream. Then a beam of light removes the outermost layer of the skin. Though healing takes 10 to 12 days, a 60% to 80% improvement may usually be expected depending on the type and extent of scarring. A single treatment may not remove scars entirely if they are too deep. These deeper scars can be corrected by injections under the skin. These injections are done with dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane® or Radiesse®.
The procedure of Coolaser Laser Acne Scar Removal can be performed on both men and women over the age of 18 who have no other medical complications. In most cases this is an elective procedure. It is important for individuals to have realistic expectations.
Laser Acne Skin Resurfacing is considered very safe. However a transient pigmentation change, swelling, and discomfort in the treated area may be expected. We will be happy to tell you more about your treatment and what you can expect during your free consultation.
Some patients return to work the same day after their acne scar removal procedure, although it is some times the case that deeper acne scars require a more aggressive treatment that may involve a longer recovery time that canlast up to several days.
You may experience some discomfort, similar to a transient stinging sensation, during the acne scar removal treatment. A numbing cream and application of local anesthetics to the treatment area may be advised by your physician to reduce any discomfort.
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for 4 weeks prior to the laser skin resurfacing. We recommend that a patient uses a SPF 30 or greater sunscreen. If you have been instructed by the treating physician, use the topical cream 4-6 weeks prior to each treatment. As in any situation, it is important to take oral antibiotics and antiviral medications as prescribed by your physician. Contact our office if you have any further questions or concerns regarding the acne scar removal treatment or recovery.
Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the first 6 weeks following your Coolaser laser acne scar removal treatment. An SPF 30 or greater sunscreen should be used once your skin has healed. Trauma such as scratching or picking the treated area should be avoided. Showers are permitted but gently pat the area to dry. Swimming and contact sports should be avoided until your skin has healed completely. Many patients find that they can wear makeup after the treatment area has healed completely. Immediately postoperatively, cool soaks to the skin surface are recommended to reduce postoperative erythema (redness) and swelling. Any discomfort or burning at the treatment site may be relieved by taking Tylenol, or other mediations prescribed by your physician. If crusts or scabs develop, allow them to fall off on their own. Contact our office immediately if you have any questions or concerns.

Acne Scar Removal Testimonials
“I had tried everything, from over the counter remedies to camouflage make-up to Retin-A, to punch grafting and dermabrasions. Frankly, I had given up hope. I cried when I first touched my smooth skin after my first laser resurfacing; so did my mom. I wish you were there when I was 18.”- Jennifer L. 32; Los Angeles, CA
